Independent Living

Independent Living at The Yellow House covers a range of topics. The aim of this course is to prepare you for next steps in your adolescence and give you the life skills you need after the Yellow House. The course is flexible and personalised to combine units to create programmes of study suited to individual learners needs and capabilities.

There are over 15 units to choose from and we will work with you to develop a personalised curriculum suited to you.  The units range from Food and Health, Learning about Workplaces, Food Preparation and Cooking, Maintaining Healthy Skin and Nails to Managing Money.

Units within the course can be selected by the student and each unit will gain the student credit values ranging from 1-4.  These credits work towards the final qualification that is awarded as follows:

Award – 8 to 12 credits
Certificate – 13 to 36 credits
Diploma - 37 plus credits

This course is assessed by tasks and activities that evidence that the criteria for each unit has been met.  This means that we can be flexible and creative in the way that we learn.

Our small groups and one to one lesson teaching means that we can accommodate and support all levels of need.
